Smart Image Cropper – Free Crop, Social Sizes and Shapes

Cut a photo to the exact shape a platform expects, in three modes: free cropping with locked ratios, one-tap social presets, and shape crops that cut a photo into a circle, star, heart or other outline. Drag the crop box, use the corner handles, or let on-device face detection frame a portrait for you.

Cropping is done locally on Canvas; your photo is never uploaded and the download carries no watermark.

Key features

How to use

  1. Upload one photo.
  2. Choose free, social or shape mode and pick a ratio or preset.
  3. Drag and resize the frame, or let face framing set it.
  4. Apply the crop and download.

The three cropping modes

Free crop

Drag a frame over the photo and pull the four corner handles (minimum 50 pixels). Lock the frame to 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 16:9 or 9:16, or leave it free-form. You can also type an exact output width and height in pixels.

Social sizes

One tap sets a precise output size for popular channels: avatar 400×400, feed square 1080×1080, a wide 1080×608 post, a portrait 1080×1440, a vertical 1080×1920 cover, a 1146×717 video cover, a 1200×500 article banner, and 800×800 marketplace product squares.

Shape crop

Cuts the photo into a square canvas clipped to an outline — circle, rounded rectangle, triangle, five-point star, heart, hexagon, diamond or arrow. The area outside the shape is transparent, so the result works as a sticker or avatar on any background.

Face auto-framing (Beta)

The “auto-frame face” switch is off by default. When you enable it, on-device detection locates a single face and frames it with natural headroom, using your chosen ratio or social preset as the target. If it finds no face, several faces, or the face sits too close to an edge to frame safely, it falls back to a centered crop and tells you so in a toast. Your photo never leaves the browser.

Step by step

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
  2. Pick a mode; in free mode choose a ratio or type exact pixels, in social mode tap a preset.
  3. Drag the box into position and resize from the corners, or enable face framing.
  4. Press “apply crop”, then download as PNG.

Privacy and output

Cropping is a local Canvas operation and the photo is never transmitted. Shape crops export with transparency, so use PNG; if you then need the file under a size limit, run it through the image compressor. For exact platform pixel and KB requirements at once, the Photo Requirement Fitter combines resizing and compression.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which social sizes are built in?

Presets cover a 400×400 avatar, 1080×1080 feed square, 1080×608 wide post, 1080×1440 portrait, 1080×1920 vertical cover, 1146×717 video cover, 1200×500 article banner and 800×800 product squares.

Can I crop to exact pixels instead of a ratio?

Yes. In free mode type a precise width and height, or tap a social preset which fills both fields for you; the crop box then snaps to that output size.

What happens to the area outside a shape crop?

It becomes transparent on a square canvas sized to the smaller of the photo’s edges, so circle and heart exports sit cleanly on any background — keep the PNG export.

Does face auto-framing upload my portrait?

No. Detection runs on-device in your browser tab and returns only a bounding box for framing. With no face, multiple faces or an unsafe edge it falls back to a centered crop.

Does cropping reduce quality?

It keeps the original pixels inside the selected area at full resolution; the export is a PNG with no extra recompression step beyond the format itself.
