Indonesia Indonesian passport photo (e-Paspor) Photo Size

The Indonesian passport photo is commonly printed at 4x6 cm (40x60 mm) - larger than the ICAO 35x45 mm - on a white background, usually submitted as two printed photos. The official immigration photo sheet uses a digital width of 400 px (with the 2:3 aspect ratio this is 400x600 px), and the Indonesian e-Visa site requires at least 400x600 px in JPEG/JPG/PNG. The top of the head (including hair) to the bottom of the chin must be 50-60% of the image height.

Ditjen Imigrasi rules and Kantor Imigrasi office network

Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi Republik Indonesia (Directorate General of Immigration) (imigrasi.go.id) sets the rules.

Indonesian passports (paspor) are issued by the Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi under the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, received at Kantor Imigrasi Kelas I/II/III offices across Indonesia and at KBRI/KJRI missions abroad. The official Syarat Foto sheet lays out a 400 px-wide digital frame with the head (top of hair to chin) at 50–60% of image height and eye level 50–60% up from the bottom; the e-Visa portal requires at least 400 × 600 px in JPEG, JPG or PNG. Fees are PNBP (state non-tax revenue): paspor biasa 48 pages Rp350.000, e-Paspor 48 pages Rp650.000, and the same-day percepatan service adds Rp1.000.000.

Indonesian applicants register on the M-Paspor app, then visit the chosen Kantor Imigrasi with KTP, Kartu Keluarga, birth certificate and two 4 × 6 cm photos; many offices also take the pasfoto on site.

  • Kantor Imigrasi (immigration offices) — Kantor Imigrasi Kelas I TPI in Jakarta (Soekarno-Hatta area), Surabaya, Medan, Makassar, Denpasar and Batam receive the application, fingerprints and two photos.
  • M-Paspor app — The official aplikasi M-Paspor lets citizens register, choose the office and queue; payment uses the PNBP channel after biometrics.
  • Studio foto (photo studios) — Neighbourhood studios shoot the pasfoto 4 × 6 cm on white background, tanpa kacamata, and print two copies for Rp20,000–Rp50,000.
  • On-site booths at immigration offices — Most Kantor Imigrasi run a paid photo booth inside the building so applicants without a studio photo can still complete biometrics.
  • Kanwil Kementerian Hukum (regional offices) — Regional offices of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights coordinate the Kantor Imigrasi in each province.
  • KBRI/KJRI embassies abroad — Indonesian missions in Vienna, Tokyo, Singapore and elsewhere issue passports and the SPLP travel document; Vienna guidance lists min 3.5 × 4.5 cm borderless up to 4 × 6 cm.
  • E-Visa portal for foreigners — Foreign visitors register at evisa.imigrasi.go.id/front/register/wna and upload the 4 × 6 cm softcopy, at least 400 × 600 px in JPEG/JPG/PNG.
  • Do it yourself at home — Shoot against a white wall, crop to 400 × 600 px in the PixlReady Indonesia preset, and upload the softcopy to the e-Visa portal.

M-Paspor handles domestic citizen registration; evisa.imigrasi.go.id handles foreign visit visas. Neither channel accepts a retouched photo: the Syarat Foto sheet requires a recent colour image, face forward, without glasses, on a white background.

M-Paspor registration: Rp350.000 ordinary fee and 6-day issue

Indonesian citizens register on the M-Paspor app, visit the chosen Kantor Imigrasi for biometrics, pay the PNBP fee, and collect the finished passport about 6 working days later; the same-day percepatan service compresses this to hours.

  1. Get two 4 × 6 cm pasfoto prints from a studio or the office booth; remember tanpa kacamata.
  2. Register on the aplikasi M-Paspor, choose the Kantor Imigrasi and time slot.
  3. Attend with KTP-el, Kartu Keluarga and akta kelahiran (or marriage book); fingerprints, signature and the photo are captured.
  4. Pay the PNBP fee: paspor biasa 48 pages Rp350.000; e-Paspor 48 pages Rp650.000; the 10-year polycarbonate e-paspor variant Rp950.000.
  5. Add Rp1.000.000 for the layanan percepatan same-day service when travel is urgent.
  6. Wait about 6 working days, or collect the same day with percepatan.
  7. Foreign visitors instead register at evisa.imigrasi.go.id/front/register/wna and upload the 400 × 600 px softcopy.
  8. Lost passports abroad are replaced at the nearest KBRI with the SPLP travel document.

Shooting a tanpa-kacamata 4×6 cm white-background pasfoto

  1. Stand against a plain white wall (latar belakang putih); a red background belongs to the KTP, not the paspor.
  2. Set the lens at eye level, face forward; position the head so top-of-hair to chin fills 50–60% of the frame and the eyes sit 50–60% up from the bottom.
  3. Keep a neutral expression, mouth closed, both eyes looking at the camera.
  4. Take off glasses (tanpa kacamata) — the Indonesian pasfoto rule explicitly forbids eyeglasses in the passport photo.
  5. Remove hats, hijabs that cover the face, earrings and necklaces; hair must not cover the facial features.
  6. Wear dark plain clothing; soft front daylight avoids shadows on the white wall.
  7. Open the sharpest frame in the PixlReady cropper and choose the Indonesia 4 × 6 cm preset, which builds the 400 × 600 px image.
  8. Print two borderless 4 × 6 cm photos on photographic paper for the Kantor Imigrasi, or upload the JPEG/JPG/PNG softcopy to the e-Visa portal.

Use the passport cropper with the Indonesia preset.

E-Visa upload: 400×600 px JPEG/JPG/PNG softcopy

The Indonesian e-Visa portal (evisa.imigrasi.go.id) requires the latest colour softcopy: face forward, size 4 × 6 cm, at least 400 × 600 px, in JPEG, JPG or PNG. The official Syarat Foto sheet measures the head as 50–60% of image height.

  • File format: JPEG, JPG or PNG accepted by the e-Visa portal.
  • Pixel dimensions: at least 400 × 600 px (the Syarat Foto layout uses 400 px width).
  • File weight: some visa upload portals specify 100–200 KB; compress without resampling below 400 px wide.
  • Background: white only; red is the KTP ID background and will be rejected.
  • Head span: top of hair to chin 50–60% of image height.
  • Eye position: eyes 50–60% up from the bottom edge.
  • No glasses: the pasfoto must be tanpa kacamata.
  • Recent and unedited: within 6 months, colour, no retouching.
  • Face forward, both eyes open, neutral expression.

Compress an oversized JPEG with the image compressor.

Two 4×6 cm prints, 3.5×4.5 cm minimum at KBRI missions

Indonesian studios print the pasfoto as two 4 × 6 cm tiles, which the Kantor Imigrasi accepts; the same tile works for many third-country visa packets.

  • Print at 300 DPI so the tile measures 40 × 60 mm.
  • Use photographic paper; plain paper and photocopies are rejected.
  • Bring two identical prints to the Kantor Imigrasi.
  • KBRI Vienna accepts a range from 3.5 × 4.5 cm borderless up to 4 × 6 cm with border.
  • Cut along the crop lines; the clerk measures the outer edge.
  • Do not wear glasses in the print — reshoot if the studio kept them on.
  • Keep the digital softcopy for the e-Visa upload.
  • Do not write on the image side; studios sign the back.

Print-dialog settings: 300 DPI guide · 200 KB upload guide.

Why Ditjen Imigrasi rejects glasses, red backgrounds and retouched photos

  • Glasses left on — the Indonesian pasfoto must be tanpa kacamata.
  • Red background — that is the KTP ID background, not the passport's white background.
  • Wrong size: using 35 × 45 mm instead of the 4 × 6 cm standard.
  • Retouched, filtered or beauty-app edited photo.
  • Head outside the 50–60% height ratio.
  • Hats, face-covering headwear or earrings visible.
  • Blurry, low-resolution or scanned print.
  • Photo older than 6 months.
  • Tilted head or sideways face.
  • Plain-paper print or photocopy.

Minors: Kartu Keluarga, birth certificate and guardian attendance

Children apply at the Kantor Imigrasi with a parent, bringing the Kartu Keluarga (family card) and akta kelahiran (birth certificate); the 4 × 6 cm white-background photo follows the same tanpa-kacamata rule.

  • Babies may be photographed lying on a white sheet; the supporting hand is cropped out.
  • No pacifier, toy or hat; infants are assessed leniently on eye openness.
  • Children over 12 months look at the camera with both eyes open.
  • A parent with KTP attends and signs.
  • The fee is the same Rp350.000 ordinary / Rp650.000 e-paspor.
  • School-age children often use studio photos taken at school — confirm the 4 × 6 cm white background.
  • Adopted children bring the adoption decree (penetapan adoption).
  • Children born abroad apply through the KBRI with the same photo.

Indonesian travel and identity documents around the paspor

The 4 × 6 cm pasfoto feeds the e-paspor, the KTP ID and third-country visas; each follows the white-background rule but with its own window.

  • Paspor biasa (ordinary passport): Rp350.000, 48 pages, 5-year validity.
  • Paspor elektronik (e-Paspor): Rp650.000, polycarbonate data page; the 10-year variant Rp950.000.
  • Layanan percepatan: same-day finishing for an extra Rp1.000.000.
  • KTP-el (Kartu Tanda Penduduk elektronik): electronic resident ID; red-background photo captured at the kelurahan.
  • Kartu Keluarga (KK): family card listing household members; required at the Kantor Imigrasi window.
  • SPLP (Surat Perjalanan Laksana Paspor): travel document issued overseas at KBRI missions.
  • E-Visa for foreigners: applied at evisa.imigrasi.go.id with the 400 × 600 px softcopy.
  • Visit visas B211A and diplomatic/service passports follow the same Syarat Foto layout.
