Make compliant passport, visa and ID photos at home with PixlReady. Crop to the standard size for your document, replace the background with the required plain color, and place several photos onto a ready-to-print 6-inch (4 by 6) sheet. Everything is processed in your browser, so your portrait photo is never uploaded.
The tool centers on an exact-pixel output: custom width and height accept 20 to 6000 pixels each, defaulting to 413 by 531, which is the 35 by 45 millimeter ID size at 300 dots per inch. A preset grid of official country sizes fills those fields for you; pick the destination country, then drag the photo in the preview so the guide lines frame the face (head-top near 7 percent and chin near 75 percent of the frame, matching the head-ratio rules most embassies publish).
The background is replaced to a chosen color before export. The background match tolerance (0 to 100, default 45) decides how aggressively similar shades are treated as background, and edge feather (0 to 0.6 in steps of 0.02, default 0.2) softens the cut boundary. A beta hair-aware cut-out toggle is available for flyaway hair that the flat background replacement leaves fringe around.
Retouch sliders stay conservative on purpose: skin smoothing 0 to 100 (default 15), de-yellow cast 0 to 50 (default 5), oil shine 0 to 100 (default 20) and shadow lift 0 to 20 percent (default 3). These even out lighting without restyling the face, which keeps the result acceptable for passport and visa purposes where heavily edited photos are rejected.
Export has two tracks: the single photo download for a digital visa or ID portal upload, and Make 6x4 print sheet, which lays repeated copies of the finished photo onto a 6-by-4 inch sheet you can print at home or send to a photo lab. For the exact millimeter, head-ratio and background rules of a specific destination, the country passport pages are the reference: US passport photo, UK passport photo, Japan passport photo and China passport photo, plus the full passport photo size index.
Pick the country preset so the output pixels already match the requirement (the 35 by 45 millimeter standard equals 413 by 531 pixels at 300 DPI). Drag the photo so the top guide sits at the crown and the chin guide at the jaw, choose the background color the destination asks for (usually white or light blue), and set the tolerance around 45 before judging the fringe. If hair edges retain background color, enable the beta hair-aware cut-out; if skin gets eaten, lower tolerance and raise feather slightly.
Choose a target file size that matches the portal's cap: 240KB for tight visa forms, 500KB or 1MB for general online submissions, or no target when you only need a print. The single-photo download serves the digital application; the 6 by 4 print sheet repeats the photo for home printing or a lab. Country-specific millimeter and head-ratio details are documented on the US, UK, Japan and China passport pages.
Yes. Use even lighting, face the camera with a neutral expression and follow the on-screen head-position guide; PixlReady handles the crop, background color and print layout.
Most countries require plain white or off-white; some visas ask for light gray or blue. Choose the color that matches your document’s official requirements.
Yes. You can place several correctly sized copies onto a standard 6-inch (4 by 6) sheet, so one photo print gives you multiple ID photos.
