Auto enhance fixes white balance, exposure and contrast, then adds a light clarity pass. Use Portrait for edge-preserving skin smoothing, Vivid for landscapes and products, and Fix dark to lift underexposed shots.

Free Photo Enhancer – Fix Blurry, Dark & Dull Photos in Your Browser

Enhance photos instantly with PixlReady’s free photo enhancer. One tap corrects white balance, stretches the tonal range for better exposure and contrast, adds a clarity (unsharp) pass, and lifts dark shots. A dedicated Portrait look smooths skin while keeping eyes, brows and hair sharp. Every adjustment is classical, deterministic image processing that runs locally in your browser — your photo is never uploaded and there is no signup or watermark.

This is not a generative AI tool: it never invents or hallucinates pixels, so faces, text and products stay true to the original. Fine-tune brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth, sharpening and skin smoothing, hold to compare before and after, then download the full-resolution result as JPG or PNG.

Key features

How to use

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP photo (it stays on your device).
  2. Choose Auto, Portrait, Vivid or Fix dark.
  3. Fine-tune the sliders and hold the compare button to check.
  4. Download the enhanced image at full resolution.

Presets, then the manual slider set

Four one-click presets cover the common repairs: Auto enhance balances exposure and contrast across the whole photo, Portrait favors skin and face tones, Vivid pushes color saturation for lively scenes, and Fix dark lifts shadow detail in underexposed shots. Press any preset and the sliders underneath update to match; then fine-tune manually.

The manual panel runs brightness, contrast, saturation and warmth each from -100 to 100 with a 0 default, plus clarity/sharpen from 0 to 100 and skin smoothing from 0 to 100. Show original holds the unedited image for comparison while pressed; Reset returns everything to zero. Output format keeps the original, or switches the export to JPG or PNG.

The smart 4x upscale, and what it cannot do

A toggle enables the smart 4x upscale, which resamples the photo to four times its linear resolution for printing or zoom. It is a resolution step, not a content generator: existing pixels are interpolated, no new objects, faces or backgrounds are invented. For severely blurry source images it improves print legibility without hallucinating detail.

Enhancement is the right last step after a cut-out: run the Background Remover first, enhance the kept subject, then export. Finished files that need to fit an upload cap go through the Image Compressor, and product shots that need a framed white background use the Product Photo Studio.

A practical enhancement order

Start with a preset rather than the sliders: Auto enhance for snapshots, Fix dark for evening or backlit shots, Portrait for faces, Vivid for travel and food. Then nudge only what the preset missed: warmth toward amber for indoor tungsten, clarity for texture in foliage and fabric, skin smoothing conservatively on close portraits. Hold Show original to compare against the untouched image before downloading.

The smart 4x upscale applies when the print needs more pixels than the source has; it resamples rather than regenerates detail, so pair it with a light clarity pass to keep the result from looking soft. Export keeps the original format by default, or switch to JPG for sharing and PNG for graphics with sharp edges. Finished images that must fit an upload cap go through the Image Compressor; for product shots that need framing on a white background afterwards, the Product Photo Studio takes over.

Reset and compare discipline

Because every slider starts at zero and presets simply move the sliders, Reset returns to the untouched photo in one click. Hold Show original while comparing so you can see whether the contrast bump is real or whether it merely looks better next to the dull version. Download carries the format you chose: keep original, JPG or PNG. The smart 4x upscale is optional and applies on top of the edited pixels rather than replacing them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the photo enhancer free?

Yes. It is completely free, requires no account, adds no watermark and processes images in your browser.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. White balance, levels, sharpening and smoothing all run locally in your browser tab, so your photos never leave your device.

Is this the same as an AI image upscaler?

No. It uses classical, deterministic image processing rather than generative AI, so it never fabricates details. It improves exposure, colour, contrast and perceived clarity instantly and privately, but it cannot reconstruct detail that was never captured the way a trained upscaler attempts to.

Can it fix a blurry photo?

It clearly improves mild softness and slight focus blur through clarity sharpening, together with contrast and colour. Severe motion blur or heavily out-of-focus images cannot be fully reversed by any tool.

What does the Portrait look change?

It applies gentle, edge-preserving smoothing to flat skin areas while leaving high-detail edges such as eyes, eyebrows, lips and hair crisp. The strength is adjustable and can be set to zero.

Which formats and sizes are supported?

Open JPG, PNG or WebP images. Very large photos are scaled to a 4800-pixel long edge for smooth in-browser processing, and downloads keep those dimensions in JPG or PNG.
